We were short-staffed to start out with today, and then one person went home with a migraine, leaving us only three people to finish out the day. We managed somehow but we were kept hopping! I did the Teen Lounge, got about 10 kids.

After work I got a call from the FWiB and we talked as I went to my psychiatrist appointment. Got there early so to kill time I went to Dunkin' Donuts and had coffee and a French cruller.

After the appointment I stopped and did a small bit of shopping on the way home.

Had my left over sundae from Carvel last week.

Called The Kid when I got home but she didn't answer.

Bjorn did not eat breakfast at all, but was eating dinner when last seen. We'll see how he does.

TMI, I know, but I started a period for the first time in several months today. I had thought I was done with them.

Happy New Year to all who celebrate!

Gratitude List:

1. The FWiB.

2. Cats.

3. Survived the day.

4. Ice cream.

5. My psychiatrist and my meds.

6. Didn't need my umbrella.

Wonderful news!

Today I was combing Callie in the bathroom, and Finn came in and didn't bark or growl or jump at her AT ALL - and this despite the fact that she hissed at him and then growled the whole time he was there! (And I don't blame her.)

He's gotten a lot better at being in the same room as the cats without freaking out, and even a little better at not barking and lunging at the familiar cats we see on our walks. (Not as good as with his own roommate cats, but you can't have everything.)

This is great because, with winter coming, Callie wants to go back to being an indoor-outdoor cat, emphasis on indoor - she doesn't like cold weather!

There are sunbreaks out there again, I will see how outside is doing and then get back to inside stuff. I need to deep clean out the fridge for sure.

It was nice to hear that the Eagle Creek Fire was close to fifty percent contained, and that the freezing level on the mountain was causing it to snow at Timberline, they have over a foot of snow!

I still would have liked to have that bit of summer between HOT and RAIN though, I hate going from having the AC on to having the furnace on in a day.

Had my interview yesterday. I keep thinking and rethinking about my responses to their questions and everything and... well... I think it went well, but then I think, oh what if I didn't give a good answer to this question or what if they were looking for a different answer....

They said I'd hear back either way and that it'd be in less than two weeks. I mean...maybe that's a good sign? But then again, maybe not? Aaah, it'll drive me crazy trying to figure out how this phone interview went. I'm hoping that my patience and easy-going response to all the technical issues and whatnot is a point in my favor, and I hope they feel I'm a good fit for the job even if it means I'd need to move to another state.

I don't know what to do anymore. Mom is pushing me towards this 911 operator job that's super stressful with 12 hour shifts and with no control over nights, weekends, holidays.... She knows about all of this but she's still insisting that I need to work somewhere. I mean, on one level I do understand, but at the same time, what exactly am I going to get out of working that job? Other than burnt out and more misanthropic than before.

I just want something to work out in my favor for a change.

It was a good thing yesterday that I cleaned two of my house gutters out. I did that between the rains, and I got a few more things picked up outside and put away. Cuz, yanno.. rains.

I awoke this morning to rolling thunder, which sounded like it was running a fast track by my house, followed by heavy lashing rains, which came from all directions, and it sounded like they power washed my windows while at it.

I waited until the rains stopped and set out on my New Book Tuesday rounds.

Gray day... everything is gray

I watch, but nothing moves today.

Looks like it's going to be overcast all week, and next week too. Well, fuck. I'm putting my lightbox back on.

It took a lot of back and forth and emails getting lost, but I got her signed up!

And now she's claiming she didn't ever ask for this in the first place. Yeah, right. I get that she wants to spend time with her friends, but - dude, she spends hours with them every single day. She can take a day off and maybe make some new friends, something she frequently claims she wants.

I went to work, got there on time, did the laptop program with the teens, got a reasonable turnout. That was it for work.

The FWiB didn't call, but I knew he wasn't going to because he went out to dinner, so no biggie.

After work I went to my meeting, which was good. I chaired, the topic was patience.

Bjorn ate a good breakfast this morning so I feel better about him not eating at all well last night. We shall see how he eats tonight.

And that's about it.

Still no word from Dreamwidth on my support request.

Gratitude List:

1. Bjorn ate well this morning.

2. The FWiB.

3. My meetings and the people there.

4. Only rained in the afternoon.

5. Air conditioning, still.

6. Bed soon.

Well. Looks like I solved the line break problem on my own. I unchecked the "disable auto format" box, and now it seems to be working.

Bad accident in Flushing

A tour bus hit an MTA bus and careened into Kennedy Chicken, killing three (the driver of the tour bus, a passenger on the MTA bus, and a pedestrian), injuring at least 19, and starting a fire in Kennedy Chicken. I was home asleep at 6 am when this happened around the corner from me. But I was affected by the traffic snarl it caused, because my bus was rerouted and I had to walk up to the Whitestone Expressway to get my bus.

Aside from that the day was OK. I did the gaming program with the teens and it was moderately successful.

After work the FWiB called and we talked while I went to meet up with [personal profile] mashfanficchick and her mother. We went to Applebee's for $6.99 burgers for dinner. Delicious.

Came home and fed the cats and turtle. Bjorn ate this morning, but tonight he ate almost nothing. I may have to take him back to the vet.

Gratitude List:

1. The FWiB.

2. Friends.

3. Wasn't involved in the accident.

4. Delicious burger.

5. Air conditioning.

6. Bjorn as long as I have him.

Still having to put breaks in by hand, still no word from Dreamwidth.

The sister creature and I set off adventuring yesterday, in the rain. What a nice thought. Made a few stops had dinner and came home.

Ttoday, I have to get outside and clean some of my gutters, I had kept putting that off all summer long, and now I need to do it.

Though not as late as I could have I guess, so that's OK. My milk had turned so I ate used up the last of the powdered instant flavored coffee I had leftover from the cottage, then went out later for brunch from Dunkin" Donuts.

Spent most of the day puttering on-line, or reading. I've started rereading Godstalk, the first of the Godstalker books by P C Hodgell. I've read the first one many times, the second one I think once, and I didn't know until recently that there were more. After I finish the second one I shall have to see about getting more on my Nook.

The FWiB called and we had a nice long talk. Texted back and forth with [Bad username or unknown identity: Mashfanficchick"], we may go out tomorrow.

Bjorn didn't eat any of his leftovers this morning, but he ate so much last night that I'll only be worried if he doesn't eat tonight. He's in the bathroom now eating, I hope.

Called The Kid, no answer. Left a message, hope she calls back.

Gratitude List:

1. The FWiB.

2. Days to read.

3. Good books.

4. Friends.

5. Cats.

6. Have more reding time tonight.

Edited to add: Still having to put the breaks in by hand.

Book where boy is stuck in town

Sep. 17th, 2017 03:28 pm
[personal profile] chickengirlallie posting in [community profile] findthatbook
ive tried searching this everywhere, basically it's a book where a boy (teenager?) is trapped in some town, as in when he tries to leave it and run away no matter how far he runs he's still in the town. When he tries to run there some significance about how the trees looked the same or something or they all looked identical so he would get lost in the forest but still be in the town? Then, at some point, he uses a computer in a public library or something and has people waiting on him maybe, to search up like a name or a thing or something. This alerts like the government or some agency that it has been searched so they make a chat pop up on his screen asking like who he is and why he searched that, and he responds also asking "who r u". They figure this means he is a teenager since he used r and u. I think this happened at the end of the book? There might have been someone in the town trying to make him stay too, and there was something evil about the town? Thats about all i remember but its driving me crazy! anything helps thanks!

Got a tad bit more done outside yesterday, I have no more bags of dirt and poo left, but I do have buckets of dirt to put in the flowerbed. Potted up all the new pots and triaged the unplanted things. Cleaned up a bit as the rains should return today, which will be nice, except I would have liked to have those few days between hotter than I can stand and rain..

Debating what to do today, I have to pay a couple of bills since they are due and I dont have time to mail them, and I need to drop off my tuesday ballot. We only had one measure on it, and I didnt see the little explaination insert until I sat down to clear space on the table.

It went OK, nothing much to say about it. Got a text from [personal profile] mashfanficchick from Renn Faire, where she had found a print of St Michael that she thought I might like, and wanted to know if she should buy it for me. I said yes, I haven't heard back from her so I hope she got it. Edited to add, just heard from her, she did. Yay!

After work I just came home. The FWiB called and we had a nice long talk.

And that's about all.

Put in a support request to Dreamwidth about the issue I'm having with the page and paragraph breaks, no reply yet.

Oh, and Bjorn ate more this morning, again, so I'm hopeful...

I spent my time yesterday outside in the yard (once I got some adulting done inside) and managed to work on the fiddly bits of the new fence, edging the foam away from the new posts and lining up the border bricks underneath. Then I hauled five buckets of dirt over to the flower bed and dumped them. Since I got outside so late, when I was going to haul more dirt, the birdies had come out for their evening feed, so I instead potted up four of the new pots with flowers and mixed up more dirt n poo and filled up buckets for todays efforts outside. With the rains coming back tomorrow, I need to get more done. I am debating if I should mow the lawn or not, it depends on how I feel once I get outside I guess. I also refilled bird feeders too.

Finally got the results of my A1C blood test, I was at a 7.0 and its come down to a 6.6 which is fabulous progress on just the stuff my Naturopath is giving me. I cant take western drugs for this since they contain stuff I am allergic to, so I will continue to make efforts to getting it even lower.

Oh, yay!

NYC Kettle Corn will be right by my sister's office on Friday.

[personal profile] catspear posting in [community profile] findthatbook
hello! I am so desperate to find this book. I read it as a kid in primary school. I rented it from a library and even a few years after I couldn't find it again and it's been driving me mad since (I am now 30!) so it was late 90s im guessing, and seemed an oldish book. The only thing I can remember was something about a ghost, and a necklace that ended up being exhibited at the Victoria and Albert museum - maybe the necklace was haunted? I know there was a ghost in it and maybe a brother and sister, but am sure the lead person was a young girl. Also there's something about pink and a wall - I'm not sure if book cover, title or what but I'm desperate to find out' if anyone has an idea please let me know!
